Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider has warned that his government will impose a curfew if people do not take precautionary measures and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
In a video message, Haider said that the lockdown had been imposed for the safety of the people.
He urged people not to attend social gatherings, especially funerals.
“I request and I strictly warn you to zealously follow the steps that government has declared in your interest, such as practicing social distancing, offering prayers at homes, avoiding funerals and visits without extreme necessity to the markets,” he said.
“The respect and sanctity of human life before Allah is far more than anything else, and [as AJK PM] it’s my responsibility to ensure protection of the lives and properties of my people."
