LAHORE, Aug 29: District Coordination Officer Khalid Sultan has claimed the city district government would stop construction of plazas being built in violation of bylaws and approved site plans.

Presiding over a meeting of design committee held here on Monday for the approval of three eight-storeyed plazas and two hospitals, the DCO said the construction of multi-storeyed buildings would be allowed strictly in accordance with the approved site plans. The builders would not be allowed to flout the bylaws concerning parking, fire-fighting, safe electricity wiring and ventilation under any circumstances, he added.

He said the builders should submit the site plans in accordance with the building bylaws to ensure approval without unnecessary delay. He said that the CDG officials should avoid raising frivolous objections against the sanction of site plans. Only serious violations of bylaws should be pointed out for rectification.

labour laws: The Pakistan Bhatta Mazdoor Union has urged the government to solve the problems being faced by two million brick kiln workers.

Union Secretary-General Mahmood Ahmed voiced the demand while addressing a meeting of brick kiln workers from Kasur here on Monday.

He said labourers were working under appalling conditions and denied the benefits available under labour laws.

He said the kiln workers were not only being denied their rights, but not being paid the prescribed minimum wages also. He said the minimum wage for moulding 1,000 bricks should be raised to Rs350 and special bricks to Rs500 in view of inflation.
