$2 billion investment in telecom expected

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Maj-Gen (retired) Shahzada Alam Malik has said the telecom sector is set to receive $2 billion investment in two years.

He was speaking to a delegation of researchers and experts from different countries including Canada, Sweden, Italy, Norway, Russia, Denmark and Poland here on Thursday.

The PTA chairman said the organization had chalked out a plan to establish tele-centres across the country to spread telecom facilities in the rural areas.

He informed the delegation that the PTA was striving to extend its services to the un-served areas to provide the people with this basic necessity.

He said the government had collected Rs20 billion during 2004- 05 as investment in two years.
