ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: In a major diplomatic reshuffle, the Foreign Ministry is set to replace several ambassadors to different countries. Naeem Khan, spokesman for the Foreign Office, has been named Pakistan’s ambassador to Manila. His predecessor, Iftikhar Kazmi, has already left for another ambassadorial assignment.
Ashraf Qureshi, additional secretary for South Asia and Asia-Pacific region, has been nominated as high commissioner to South Africa.
Tariq Azizuddin Khan, chief of protocol at the Foreign Office, has been named ambassador to Afghanistan in place of Akbar Zaib Khan, who had returned to Islamabad.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar, Ayaz Wazir Khan, has come back to the headquarters after completing his tenure and has been posted as director-general Afghan desk. Asghar Afridi will be Pakistan’s new ambassador to Qatar.
Faiz Khosa will be Pakistan’s ambassador to Tunisia vice Naeem Jan Khan who has attained the age of superannuation and is retiring early next month.
Riffat Iqbal has been assigned the responsibilities of high commissioner to Zimbabwe, a seat that was lying vacant.—PPI
