FAISALABAD, Jan 16: The students of the National College of Textile Engineering boycotted the classes and observed a strike on Wednesday to protest against the non-registration of first year students for examinations.

The students also held a demonstration in front of main gate of the college.

They alleged that college administration failed to register all first year students despite getting huge fee from them.

The first year students of the college have been agitating against the college administration for the last seven days for not registering them. Students of other classes joined them on Wednesday.

The students said that the college administration had assured them at the time of admission that they would get degrees of the National Textile University after completion of courses but the promise has not so far been fulfilled.

They urged the education department high-ups to take notice of the situation and resolve the matter otherwise they would block Faisalabad-Sheikhupura Road.

SHOT DEAD: A dacoit was shot dead by the inmates of a house in Khurrianwala on Tuesday night.

A gang of dacoits entered the house of Akhtar Ali and opened fire. Akhtar also retaliated, killing one of the dacoits on the spot.

Area police have yet to identify the killed dacoit.

HAILED: PPP’s divisional coordinator Raja Riaz Ahmad has appreciated the government decision to ban militant outfits.

Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday, he said that PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto had, during her visit to India, suggested restrictions on such organization which were involved in terrorism in the name of jihad.

To a question, he said that PPP had already announced that it would take part in the next general elections at all cost under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto.

He alleged that the newly-established district governments have failed to resolve the problems of the people owing to corruption and negligence of the heads of local councils.
