Tributes paid to Fyfe

KARACHI, Aug 23: Glowing tributes were paid by the speakers to late Ian Fyfe for his contribution and dedicated services to sports journalism at a condolence meeting held at Karachi Club on Tuesday.

Fyfe, a senior daily Dawn reporter died on Aug 5 after an accident on June 30.

“Ian was a modest, hard working journalist, who made his mark in horse racing and snooker,” Asghar Valika said.

Sirajul Islam Bukhari recalled his nearly 30-year association with Fyfe and reminded that cricket was Ian’s great love and he was one of the pioneer members of Karachi Goan’s Association (KGA) cricket team.

He announced holding an All Karachi minorities cricket tournament in memory of Fyfe.

Aspi Mavalwala said with the death of Fyfe, PBSA and KC had lost a great friend and supporter.

Khalid Rehmani and KC sports convener Jawed Karim also announced snooker and tennis events in memory of Fyfe.

The condolence meeting was also attended by sports organizers, players, journalists, friends and relatives.—APP
