KARACHI, Aug 23: Just a couple days before the second phase of the local body elections, the Pakistan People’s Party has accused Federal Water and Power Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi of misusing government resources.
It said the minister addressed a public meeting in the UC Sita Road in blatant violation of election laws.
This was in contrast to warning given by election authorities to MPA Sharfunnisa Legahri for hoisting a small party flag on the vehicle she was driving while participating in a rally of the Awam Dost panel.
In the same UC, Rangers last night arrested government party supporter Ali Mohammad Soomro with unlicensed weapons.
The arrest was made on the protest from supporters of Awam Dost candidate who were being constantly threatened.
Mr Soomro was handed over by Rangers to the Sita Road police wherefrom he was released within a few minutes allegedly on a telephone call of Mr Jatoi.
According to the PPP election monitoring committee lady supporters of the Awam Dost candidate for UC nazim in UC Seeta Road were being threatened with kidnapping if they appeared on polling stations on the polling day.
Earlier, Awam Dost candidates for nazim and naib nazim in UC Nau Goth, Mr Basheer Lakhair and Mr Khuda Bux Bhurgari, their supporters, Mr Akbar Lakhair and Ali Gohar Dehar, as well as Awam Dost candidates for nazim and naib nazim of UC Khairpur Nathan Shah Amanullah Sario and Mubarak Sario were kidnapped.
On receiving complaint of the kidnapping, the Session Judge Khairpur Nathan Shah conducted a raid on Khan Goth, the village of the minister and recovered kidnapped persons.
It claimed that a false case of kidnapping had been lodged against Sher Mohammad Shah, an ADP candidate for councillor in UC Diler Dero, Nawabshah.
Also in the same UC another false case has been lodged against Siddiq Khaskheli, an ADP candidate for labour seat, his supporter Shabbir and three others.
They are constantly being pressurized to change loyalty.
