Free dry fruit snacks to be distributed in 13 schools

ISLAMABAD: All students in 13 schools of Nilore will be provided free dry fruit snacks for one year under School Meals Project.

The snacks will be provided by World Food Programme (WFP) as a letter of understanding (LoU) has been signed between Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director Education Syed Umair Javed and WFP Country representative Pakistan Finbarr Curran.

The LoU signing ceremony was held a few days ago.

The programme is being launched in the project’s pilot phase, said Mr Javed.

“A simultaneous research component will measure impact and give input for scaling up,” he said, appreciating the WFP’s country head and his team for their assistance in launching this programme.

According to a statement, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood appreciated the programme and directed the ministry and FDE officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for the scale up after receiving results of the pilot.

The programme will be launched in the beginning of the upcoming academic session, an official said.
