FAISALABAD, Aug 22: Scores of vehicles have been impounded by the local police and the district administration to carry polling staff for union council elections scheduled to be held on Aug 25.

Reports said special teams of the traffic police, district administration, transport authorities and SHOs impounded vehicles in the city and on inter-district routes on Monday morning. The government officials forced the passengers to vacate the vehicles and shifted buses, wagons and mini-trucks to police lines’ and the Bohranwali ground.

Reports of impounding of vehicles were also received from Samundri, Jaranwala, Tandlianwala and Chak Jhumra. Students had to face a great deal of inconvenience owing to shortage of buses and wagons.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Commuters had to face a great deal of inconvenience in the district and on other inter-city routes on Monday owing to impounding of vehicles for ‘election duty’ on Aug 25.

Reports said even some national newspapers could not reach here as the bus on which the bundles had been loaded from Faisalabad, was seized by police on the Faisalabad-Toba Road.

Some influential transporters were allegedly charged Rs200 to Rs250 per head from Toba to Faisalabad instead of Rs60 fare.
