‘Bike-carts’ add to chaos on roads

MIANWALI: As gypsies are replacing donkeys with motorcycles to pull their carts, they are adding to chaos on roads.

This ‘innovation’ which is becoming popular among gypsies is highly unfit to be plied on roads. It overturns on bumpy roads or whenever emergency brake is applied.

Heavily loaded with people and luggage as gypsies keep on relocating, they can be seen on farm to market roads which are not wide enough to accommodate these three-wheelers.

Their drivers neither have any road sense nor they are bothered about the fact that this vehicle is not only dangerous for them but for other motorists as well.

Ziaullah Khan, Mianwali’s traffic DSP, told Dawn that before his posting here there were reports of frequent accidents involving these motorcycle carts.

He said traffic staff was now taking action against drivers of such carts. “Due to our strict surveillance, the number of accidents have come down and the number of such carts has reduced.”

He said this menace was however very much there in surrounding districts.
