Recompilation of revenue record ordered

ABBOTTABAD, Aug 21: Provincial Minister for Revenue Maulana Asmatullah has asked the local revenue office to recompile the revenue record of Abbottabad district, which has been damaged due to fire in the record room in April.

He issued the order during a surprise visit to the tehsil office on Saturday. The work, he said, should be completed by September 15.

The revenue record from year 1886 to 1990 was burnt in the fire incident after which land transfer cases have been stopped. It is causing financial loss to the government and problems to the local people, especially who are in the process of getting loans from banks and financial institutions or want to clear the properties mortgaged against loans.

In the meantime, the record is being photocopied from the record maintained by the Patwaris at their end.

The then NWFP government had appointed a three-member inquiry committee to find out reasons of fire and fix the responsibility but till date its report has not been made public.

CONCERN: People from different quarters have expressed deep concern over the negligence of the treasury office as stamp papers are being sold without the official stamp and date.

They alleged that the stamp papers were being used for back date proceedings especially the sale proceeds of land and houses.
