Most among promoted officers belong to administrative services group

ISLAMABAD: The Central Selection Board (CSB) has recommended promotion of senior bureaucrats, including two senior officers of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), as director general in BS-21.

Among the promoted officers, the majority belongs to the Pakistan Administrative Services (PAS), formerly known as District Manage­ment Group (DMG), and the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP).

Besides, the promoted officers are from the ministries of information and broad­casting, commerce, railways, national food security and research, water resources, overseas Pakistanis and education and professional training, aviation, cabinetand and finance divisions, Military Land and Cantonments, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Auditor General of Pakistan.

The CSB examined the promotions of bureaucrats working in BS-19 and BS-20 in the above mentioned ministries/divisions during its meetings held from Jan 27 to 29.

According to the agenda of the CSB meetings, there were 50 officers of the PAS panel who were considered for promotion in BS-21 — Secretariat Group 15, PSP 27, FBR 30 and Audit and Accounts 12.

The panel of other ministries/divisions for the promotion in BS-21 comprises 6-10 officers. Five officers of the ISI were considered for the post of director general of the agency in BS-21.

Sources said that the CSB recommended the promotion of Siddique Khurram and Hassan Jamal in BS-21.

The panel of 18 officers was exa­mined for promotion in BS-20 as deputy director general (DDG) ISI.

It may be mentioned that earlier, there was only one post of BS-21 for the civilian officers in the Intelligence Service.

On Sept 15, 2017, the then prime minister approved a proposal to increase the number of DGs — the highest civilian post in the agency — from one to four.

In addition, the number of deputy directors general (DDGs) had also been increased from eight to 15.

The PAS officers recommended for promotion in BS-21 included Ahmed Bukhsh Palejo, Mohammad Nawaz Naseem, Nabeel Ahmed Awan, Ahsan Ali Mangi, Hassan Mohammad Yousafzai and Iqbal Memon.

The PSP officers finalised for BS-21 as additional inspector general are: Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, Sadiq Ahmed Khan, Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, Omar Sheikh, Ehsan Tufail, Abdul Razzaq Cheema, Tariq Nawaz Malik, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and Sultan Khawaja.

The officers recommended for promotion as deputy inspector general (DIG) included Khurram Shehzad Haider, Ahmad Nasir Aziz Virk, Mohammad Kashif, Syed Ali Mohsin, Abdul Jabbar, Mohammad Nauman Siddiqui, retired Capt Rommel Akram, Naveed Ahmed Nisar Khawaja, Aftab Ahmad Mahsud, Faisal Bashir Memon, Ehsan Manzoor, Asghar Ali, Mehboob Rashid Mian, Mohammad Hassan Raza Khan, Imran Yaqub, Saqib Sultan Mehmood, Awais Ahmed, Zulfiqar Ali Mahar, Mohammad Ijaz Khan and Jahanzeb Nazir Khan.

The officers of the Information Group promoted in BS-20 included Mohammad Asim Khichi, Manzoor Memon, Kashif Zaman and Mubashir Hassan.

Sources in the Establishment Division said that the minutes of the CSB meetings were being prepared and these would be forwarded to the prime minister in the coming week.

The promotions of the officers will be notified after the prime minister’s approval, the sources said.
