HYDERABAD, Jan 16: The president, Tehrik-i-Istaqlal, Rehmat Khan Wardag has called upon the political parties to sit with President Pervez Musharraf to bring about constitutional amendments before the general elections to ensure that the parliament was not dissolved under any circumstances even if the government was thrown out.
He said this while talking to newsmen at Kotri on Wednesday.
He said that the time had come that all the politicians should sit together and find out a way to stop the interference of the army in the body politic.
He said that the recent measures announced by Gen Pervez Musharraf were in the best interest of the country.
He suggested that both parts of Kashmir should be handed over to the UN for two years and thereafter referendum should be held to determine the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris.
He regretted that Asghar Khan had himself left and made the party “an orphan”.
He said that in the coming elections, the Tehrik-i-Istaqlal was likely to enter into an alliance with the PML (QA), and added that he had already held a meeting with Mian M. Azhar in furtherance of this objective.
