Sponsors urged to support regional teams

LAHORE, Aug 20: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Shaharyar M. Khan, on Friday stressed the need to revert to traditional cricket in order to compete at the international level. He also resolved to develop and promote grassroot cricket by reviving the game in clubs, schools and colleges.

He added that the promotion of cricket in the educational institutions would produce a crop of educated cricketers which was badly needed in international cricket.

Shaharyar also agreed to a suggestion that a sports psychologist should also be a part of the national team.

The PCB chairman announced that the board was working to hold an Inter-club national cricket championship involving 790 active clubs in the country.

Shaharyar urged banks, multinationals and corporate sector to come forward and sponsor regional teams competing in domestic cricket.

Why can’t businessmen in Faisalabad, Sialkot and Peshawar sponsor their teams, he asked.
