Senior journalist Khalique Zuberi passes away

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Khalique Zuberi passed away on Monday after a brief ailment. He was 80.

His Namaz-i-Janaza (funeral prayer) was offered at the National Press Club which was attended by his colleagues, relatives and a large number of journalists. Later, he was buried at H-11 graveyard.

Mr Zuberi started his career from PPI in late 60s as economic journalist and then moved to Pakistan and Gulf Economist in 70s where he worked under the editorship of Ibnul Hassan. He was made its editor in mid-80s and remained on the post for a decade.

He gave a new dimension to economic and budget reporting.

In 1994, Mr Zuberi moved to Islamabad from Karachi and joined The Financial Post as its editor. He then moved to The News in 1997 and remained associated with the daily till his death.

The journalist community has expressed grief and sorrow over his demise.

In condolence messages, they prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
