Jalil to face Nomi for title

KARACHI, Aug 18): Third seed Jalil Khan booked his berth in the final with Nomi Qamar by outclassing Adnan Khan in straight sets in the semifinal of Open Tennis Championship on Thursday at Karachi Gymkhana.

Jalil with his deadly serves and returns displayed overwhelmed his opponent 6-3, 7-5. Adnan put up stiff resistance in the second set but failed to extend his superior opponent.

Rizwan Hussain, who created two major upsets earlier in the event by beating third and second seeds in the quarterfinal and semifinal was firmly put in his place by top seed Nasir Mushtaq who crushed the unseeded player in a one sided Under-17 final. Nasir 6-1, 6-0.

Promising Iman continued her fine form when she outplayed Anam Saeed in straight sets in the final to clinch the ladies singles title. Iman won 6-1, 6-2.

Boy’s Under-9 crown was claimed by Khawaja Hamza by beating Taha Bande Ali 6-1, 6-2.

Jehangir Rasheed moved in the final of boys-15 event by winning a semifinal battle against Qurban 6-0, 6-1.
