QUETTA, Aug 18: Baloch Students’ Organization (United) Chairman Dr Imdad Baloch said on Thursday that three workers of his organization arrested by Sadiqabad police had been handed over to Balochistan police and claimed that the condition of one of the detainees, Dr Allah Nazar, was serious because of torture.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club, Dr Baloch said Sadiqabad police had handed over the arrested people to Balochistan police on the home secretary’s request as they were wanted in some cases in the province.

The BSO-U chief said some relatives of Dr Nazar had met the detained activists at Chandarmah police station in Sadiqabad for a few minutes and found his condition serious.

Dr Baloch said Sadiqabad police had told relatives of the detainees that Dr Nazar, Akhtar Nadeem and Ali Nawaz had been shifted on Wednesday to Dera Murad Jamali police station.

He said Dera Murad Jamali police had on Thursday refused to confirm that the arrested people had been handed over to them.

The BSO-U leader demanded treatment of Dr Nazar and said the government would be responsible if his condition deteriorated in police custody.

He appealed to human rights organizations and political parties to raise voice against excesses of intelligence agencies, alleging that detainees were given electric shocks in custody.
