PESHAWAR, Aug 17: NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman, while expressing satisfaction over security arrangements made for the local government election in the province, has stressed that the voters must be provided a peaceful and congenial atmosphere to exercise their right to vote without any fear.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House on Wednesday to review the security situation, the governor said though the respective law enforcement agencies have already made sufficient home work yet they must also be fully prepared to meet any unforeseen situation in this respect.

Appreciating the availability of sufficient strength from the Pakistan Army, especially the Frontier Corps as well as the Frontier Constabulary to support the police in each respective district, the governor also expressed keen interest in the arrangements made for their mobilization as well as the available communication system and expressed confidence that there would be no loopholes in this respect.

In this connection, he also desired that apart from making extraordinary security arrangements to ensure proper security at sensitive areas, effective and proper mobilization of the reserved contingents should also be ensured in case of an emergency.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police Rifaat Pasha briefed the governor about the security arrangements made for the election.

He said that proper security arrangements have been taken at each and every polling station in all the 12 districts of the province where elections would be held tomorrow.

In addition to this, he added, a reserved force will also be available at certain points in each district and tehsil.

Besides the police force, he said, the Pakistan Army, especially the Frontier Corps as well as Frontier Constabulary, is providing sufficient strength in each district in support of the police to meet any unforeseen event.

The meeting was also attended by Provincial Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Principal Secretary to Governor Brig Asad Munir and Inspector General Frontier Corps Major Gen Tariq Masud.
