LAHORE: As many as 1,934 graduates were awarded degrees in various disciplines in 18th convocation of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) held at its Johar Town campus on Thursday.

According to details, 1,130 Bachelor’s, 246 Master’s, 543 MS/MPhil and 15 PhD degrees were awarded in the convocation.

Eighteen patron’s gold medals, 22 rector’s silver medals, 07 rector’s academic excellence awards gold medal, six certificates of excellence, three rector’s research recognition award, eight special medal awards, five rector’s awards for entrepreneurship and innovation, 10 extracurricular medals and awards, four highest number of publications (faculty) and as many highest impact factor publication (faculty) were also given away on the occasion of the annual convocation.

During his speech on the occasion, Governor Chaudhry Sarwar welcomed International Islamic Relief Organization Secretary General Abdul Rehman Matar.

He termed quality education was an important to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

“It is all about equipping the youth with the latest tools and skills needed in this new world and the students need to be more creative to be successful,” he said.

UMT/ILM President Ibrahim Hassan Murad said the prime focus of the university was to educate students to develop inclusive character of knowledge and practices so that they could play pivotal role in securing bright future of Pakistan and Muslim Ummah.

Secretary General International Islamic Relief Organization Abdul Rehman Matar said Islamic culture and heritage between the two states had been reinforced. The hallmark of relations between the two countries was that they stood alongside each other in troubled times.

UMT/ILM Trust Chairman Dr Ahmad Omer Murad and UMT rector Dr Muhammad Aslam also spoke.

The university conferred the honorary PhD upon Dr Muhammad Bin Abdul Karim Issa, the secretary general of Muslim World League, Makkah, for his contributions to the development of Muslim Ummah.
