Woman, minor boy suffer burns in building fire

LAHORE: A woman and a minor boy, believed to be her son, were hospitalised with life-threatening burns late on Saturday after a fire broke out at their flat near Lorry Adda.

The woman, yet to be identified, was living along with the child in a one-room flat at the third floor of the building.

As locals spotted flames, they alerted the police and Rescue 1122.

The fire-fighting squad of Rescue 1122 rushed to the site and controlled the ablaze after hectic efforts of two hour or so.

A spokesperson for the Rescue 1122 said that the team found the woman and her son with some burns.

Probably, both had fainted due to suffocation because the room was closed from inside, he said adding that they were immediately rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

Quoting some local doctors, he said, chance of survival of both woman and her son were very bleak because they were shifted to the hospital with almost no breath. A police official said that apparently the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as there was no witness to the incident.

Since only woman and her son were living alone in the flat, no one other knows the facts, he said adding that the police were trying to reach their relatives to obtain further details about them.
