DADU, Aug 13: Police here on Saturday foiled a sabotage attempt by defusing heavy time bombs planted at 500kv transmission pylons of the Dadu-Guddu section between Kishawar Chandio and Ali Ahmad Ghallo villages by some miscreants.

Area people informed the Dadu district police that some people had planted bombs at transmission pylons 141 and 142.

A heavy contingent of police, led by Mehar TPO Gul Baig Jatoi, Thrari Mohabbat SHO and the in-charge of the Radhan police station, reached the spot and after three hours of efforts succeeded to defuse the bombs. Police had sealed the entire area during the bomb defusing process.

TPO Jatoi told Dawn that he had informed Wapda officials to suspend power supply. He said police waited for Wapda officials and the bomb disposal squad but neither Wapda officials nor the bomb disposal squad reached the spot.

DPO Rukhsar Ahmad Khuhawar said the time bombs, weighing 6kgs, had been planted by three people whose footprints had been found at the scene. He said police were chasing them with the help of footprint trackers.

He said police had found a pamphlet at the spot in which Sindh National Liberation Movement supreme commander Ghulam Hussain Chandio had accepted the responsibility for planting the bombs and threatened that if construction of the greater Thal canal and other “anti-Sindh” projects was not stopped, he would continue such acts.

The DPO said a case would be registered against the people after visit of the bomb disposal squad team.

He said electricity towers were being checked and police had been deployed to guard the high-tension transmission line in the district.

POLICEMEN DISMISSED: Three policemen were dismissed from service and an ASI was suspended here on Thursday.

The DPO, operation, Rukhsar Ahmad Khuhawar, during patrol on the Indus Highway saw ASI Mohammad Ismail Mallah, driver of a police mobile, Khair Mohammad Gopang, and constable Manzoor Ali sleeping at a hotel while their weapons were lying in the mobile.

The DPO sent them to the police lockup and dismissed them from service.
