NAWABSHAH, Aug 13: A 60-foot breach developed at RD-65 in the Nusrat Canal near 60-Miles on Saturday, inundating 25 huts, standing cotton crop and hundreds of acres of land.

Irrigation staff reached the spot and started plunging the breach.

Talking to journalists, the executive engineer of the Nusrat irrigation division, Saeed Jagirani, claimed that some people had created the breach to ensure availability of water in the Dhoji branch.

He said water flow had been stopped at 60-Miles, 54-Miles, 31-Miles and the Darya Khan Mari regulator to complete the repair work.

The breach could not be plunged till the filing of this report.

ELECTION CODE: A meeting was held at the Darbar Hall here on Saturday to discuss implementation of the Election Commission’s code of conduct.

DCO Abdul Razzaq Qureshi presided over the meeting which was attended by Indus Rangers commandant Col Zameer Hussain, DPO Ghulam Hyder Jamali, TPOs and all candidates for seats of union council nazims.

Speaking on the occasion, the DCO urged the candidates to abide by rules and regulations and demonstrate tolerance during the election campaign and on the polling day.

Col Hussain said Rangers had installed cameras at polling stations. He said security measures had been finalized.

The DPO gave an assurance that law and order would be maintained during the election process.
