MITHI: Two women and seven children were bitten by a stray dog in Varori Dura village near Chhachhro town of Tharparkar district on Tuesday.
All the victims were taken to the Chhachhro Taluka Hospital, where doctors referred two of them (both boys) to the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Hyderabad due to their critical condition.
Medical superintendent of the Chhachhro Taluka Hospital Dr Naresh Kumar, speaking to local reporters, said that effective vaccines to treat dog-bite victims were not being provided to the health facility. He said more than 20 such patients were brought to the hospital in recent days.
Area residents told the reporters that two dog-bite victims had already died and scores of other cases were routinely being reported at various health facilities in the taluka but no action was being taken to eliminate stray and rabid dogs.
