LAHORE: Royal Palm with 28 points led on the first of the Inter-club Golf Championships here at the Lahore Gymkhana on Friday.

The 20-member teams of Royal Palm, Defence Raya besides Lahore Gymkhana are participating in the three-day championships.

Contested as per the three ball six some alternate shot format, Royal Palm team managed to compile 28 points, attributable to some skillful play by their combinations of Shoaib Bokhari and Faisal Sayid, Azfar Hassan and Faisal Ali Malik, Hussain Hamid and Hasan Hamid, retired Lt Gen Hilal Hussain and Abdullah Sharif and Usman Cheema and Mikail Khan.

While these combinations were outstanding in repressing their opposite numbers from Lahore Gymkhana and Defence Raya and thereby contributed four points per combination to the team aggregate total, a few others who added vital points are Asim Tiwana and Abdul Islam Nazir (two points), Damil Atta and Shahid Abbas (two) and Abbas Chaudry and Dr Tashbeeb (three).

The team placed second were Lahore Gymkhana who accumulated a total of 20 points.

Successful combinations for them who fetched four points per combination were Amer Mehmood and Kh. Jehanzeb, Ahmed Zafar and Danish Javed, and Khurshid Aziz and Husain Atta.

A few others who fetched two points per combination were Taimur Shabbir and Farooq Khan, Qasim Khan and Ahsan Khawaja, Rizwan Raees and Omer Farooq and Shehryar Anwer and Asad Abbas.

The Defence Raya team were third at the score of 10 points.

On the second day, the inter-club golf contest will be held at the Royal Palm Golf Course on stable ford format and the final days competition will be staged at Defence Raya Golf Course.
