GUJRANWALA, Aug 10: The Federal Investigation Agency took 15 youths, along with two alleged human smugglers, into custody, who were arrested at Greece-Turkey border by Turkish authorities here on Wednesday.
Reports said that some human smugglers of Gujranwala and Sialkot districts allegedly received Rs500,000 to Rs600,000 from each youth for sending them to Greece and other European countries through Iran and Turkey. However, the youths and their agents were arrested by Turkish security forces from a container at Greece-Turkey border, along with 30 other people.
It has been learnt that the Turkish government deported the 15 youths along with their two agents, while the remaining were imprisoned there.
An FIA Deputy Director Chaudhry Riaz Ahmad, along with some other officials, went to Pastan border, and brought the deported persons back to the city, where they had been detained for further investigation.
Sources said the youths would be released after scrutiny of their documents, while the agents would be booked on charges of human smuggling.
Various human smuggling gangs had been fleecing the people in Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot districts for the last several years, they added.
Three injured: Three members of a family, including a woman, were shot at and injured during a robbery bid in Wazirabad on Wednesday.
Police said eight outlaws forced their entry into the house of Shahid Iftikhar. They held the family at gunpoint and started collecting valuables. They opened fire when the family raised an alarm as a result of which Shahid, his brother Khurram and mother Robina sustained bullet injuries.
They were admitted to the THQ hospital in critical condition while the robbers escaped with the booty.
Expatriate Ijaz Ahmad was on his way to his hometown Bharoki Cheema from Lahore airport by a car along with his brother Shaukat Ali. When they reached near Kamoki, five car riders intercepted them. They snatched Rs1.4 million in cash, five mobile phones and other valuables and drove away with their car.
Three masked robbers entered the shop of Sajjad Ahmad in Dhulley. They held him and customers at gunpoint, snatched Rs13,000 in cash and other valuables and escaped.
