KARACHI: Anti-polio campaign launched

KARACHI, Aug 9: A three-day polio immunization campaign kicked off on Tuesday during which some 6.2 million children would be administered polio drops in the province.

More than 15,000 mobile teams, 17,994 fixed teams and 1,107 transit teams would take part in the province-wide campaign.

In Karachi, the campaign was launched by Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani who visited Cantonment Station Karachi and Sindh government hospitals in Saudabad and Liaquatabad and administered polio drops to children.

The Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) has established four transit camps at Karachi Cantonment Station, where children were being administered polio drops.

The minister was accompanied by Secretary Health Noshad Shaikh, EDO Health Khalid Shaikh, EPI Project Director Khadim Lakhair and Dr Asif Aslam of the Unicef.

Later, the minister visited Sindh Government Hospital Saudabad, where two camps were established. He administered polio drops to children at the hospital. He also visited OPDs of the hospital and inquired patients about provision of medicine and other facilities.

The minister also visited Sindh Government Hospital, Liaquatabad and administered polio drops to children. —PPI
