From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1969: Fifty Years Ago: Polls Order in Dir, Swat

RAWALPINDI: The Electoral Rolls Order, 1969 (President Order No. 6 of 1969) has been extended to the tribal areas of Chitral, Dir and Swat, it was officially stated.

A notification issued here today [Oct 30] by the Ministry of Home, Kashmir Affairs and States and Frontier Regions said: “In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 18 of the Electoral Rolls Order, 1969 (President Order No. 6 of 1969), the President is pleased to direct that the said order shall apply to the tribal areas of Chitral, Dir and Swat.”

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Teheran,] President Yahya Khan advised a Pakistani lady teacher “to practise speaking Persian” to add depth in our friendly relations and cultural ties with Iran. “If you know Urdu, it is not difficult to learn Persian,” the President said.

The Pakistani lady teacher was present at the airport to greet President Yahya Khan with her students. The lady teacher started speaking in English when the President asked about her welfare in Persian. The President advised her to speak as much Persian as possible.
