SIALKOT: The local Hindu community celebrated Diwali (festival of light) at the recently renovated Shawala Teja Singh temple after 72 years here on Sunday.

The ancient temple which is said to be around 1,000 years old was illuminated by the Hindu devotees to mark the festival.

The devotees started the Diwali celebrations with worship and rituals, praying for the unity, peace and integrity of Pakistan.

The Hindus also illuminated their houses as part of Diwali celebrations and exchanged gifts and sweets.

Tight security arrangements were made by police in and around the Hindu temples to avert any untoward incident. Local Hindu leaders also cut Diwali cake and lit clay lamps at Shawala Teja Singh and Jagan Nath temples.
