LARKANA, Aug 6: The clerical staff of the department of excise and taxation observed a pen-down strike here on Saturday. They demanded that the government should post senior officers as excise and taxation officers and implement the recommendations of the departmental promotion committee.

Sabir Soomro, an office-bearer of the All-Pakistan Clerks Association, said the DPC had recommended promotion of 51 head constables and assistants.

The chief secretary approved it but the ministry concerned had rejected it without mentioning any valid reason.

The APCA said this kind of unilateral and deliberate rejection of the DPC had generated a wave of resentment among the employees.
