From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1969: Fifty Years Ago: Mamdot dies

LAHORE: Nawab Iftikhar Husain Khan of Mamdot died at the Fauji Foundation Hospital in Rawalpindi this evening [Oct 18]. He was 63. The body of Nawab Mamdot will be brought here from Rawalpindi. The funeral will be taken out from Mamdot Villa tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Nawab Mamdot took an active part in the Pakistan Movement and was the President of the Punjab Muslim League during the pre-Partition days. After independence, he was the Chief Minister of the former Punjab province. Later he formed the Jinnah Awami League in collaboration with Mr Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy. He was appointed as Governor of the former Sind province, and later included in the Republican Government as the Revenue Minister. He was the Vice-President of the Pakistan Convention Muslim League at the time of his death. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in New Delhi,] Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, visiting Gandhian, today [Oct 18] called on the Hindu population of India not to hold the Muslims responsible for the Partition of the country. Delivering a convocation address at Gujrat University, the Khan said the Partition was not brought about by “these poor people” but by the British, who did not want the Hindus and Muslims to remain united.
