PESHAWAR, Aug 3: A high level meeting was held here on Wednesday to discuss measures to streamline traffic system in the NWFP, particularly in the provincial capital. The meeting was presided over by NWFP Minister for Transport Akhtar Nawaz Khan and attended by Provincial Secretary Home Abdul Karim Qasuria, the secretary transport, the AIG traffic and other officials concerned.

The meeting discussed several proposals to decrease accident ratio and overcome traffic problems in the province, including an increase in fines for violating traffic rules. It stressed the need for strictly following the decision of the provincial government of banning music and pressure horns in vehicles. The minister urged the drivers to follow traffic rules in letter and spirit otherwise be prepared to face punishment.

He asked motorcyclists to wear helmets and warned those wearing no helmets would have to pray Rs100 fine.
