LAHORE, July 30: The Punjab government is working on a mega project of providing clean drinking water and excellent sewerage network to the people, besides installing water treatment plants in the province. This was stated by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi at a meeting with Mr Didier Authier, the vice-president of an international water treatment plants company. Mr Authier called on the chief minister here on Saturday.
Pervaiz Elahi said implementation of the project would improve health and environment conditions, and raise the standard of living. He said clean potable water played a vital role in controlling disease. And that’s why the government was paying special attention to the improvement of water-supply institutions.
He said a Rs8 billion rural water supply and drainage programme had been launched in the southern Punjab. The province was encouraging foreign investment with regard to the provision of clean drinking water to the people. It would also avail itself of all opportunities of collaboration with international agencies in this regard, he said.
