KARACHI, July 29: Leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Friday termed the election commission’s warning to the Sindh government of stern action ‘a belated move’, arguing that kidnappings and victimization of opposition candidates had already taken their toll.

In a statement, Mr Khuhro said that instead of considering the complaints lodged with it, the EC was stressing on police-verified evidences for taking the action.

Mr Khuhro said that the election commission had already been informed that the opposition candidates were being kidnapped, but it took no notice.

The PPP leader demanded fresh scrutiny of nomination papers in all those UCs where candidates had been prevented through any offence from appearing before the ROs to get their papers cleared. Likewise, he added, the process of filing nomination papers should be held afresh in those UCs where aspirants had been stopped from filing nomination papers.
