PESHAWAR, Jan 14: The government will launch a school nutrition programme in poverty-hit localities soon and girls schools would be selected in eight districts and Frontier regions for the purpose.
The programme will be supported by the federal ministry of special education and women development in the backward areas for children between the ages of 5 and 9 to remove the deficiency of vitamins, iron, etc,. among them.
Although the target of the federal government was to benefit only 100,000 children in all the four districts, the number has been increased to 125,000 children and the areas of Frontier regions has been included in it.
In this regard, a meeting was held by NWFP Education Minister Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani with the representatives of the ministry for women development here on Monday. The meeting discussed the “Tawana Pakistan Programme” and it was decided that the programme would be extended to other areas.
The meeting decided that now the programme would include the selected schools in the districts of Tank, D.I. Khan, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Shangla and Batagram as well as the frontier regions of D.I. Khan, Bannu and Kohat.
COMPUTER CLASSES: NWFP Education Minister Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani inaugurated the B.Sc and BCS classes in Government College here on Monday.
The college also offers B.Sc (Computer Science) two years and BCS (Bachelor of Computer Science) four years courses on the self-finance basis in the evening. However, the fee is many times lower than what is charged by the private educational institutions in the province. Over 100 students are already benefiting from it.
The annual cost of B.Sc is Rs20,000 while that of BCS is Rs25,000 as compared to Rs50,000 and Rs70,000 charged by the private institutions, respectively.
Before the government made arrangement for the new classes, the college was infamous for political activities. Now, the overall result both at the F.Sc and B.Sc levels has also improved a lot. In his speech, the minister stressed on discipline and importance of duties.
Higher Education Secretary Rashida Malik and Director Prof Dr Abdur Rauf Khan were present.
