MIRAMSHAH, July 28: Security forces on Thursday exchanged fire with suspected militants hiding in a house, officials and witnesses said. The sources said that the security forces had besieged the house about 2km from here in the Darga Mandi area near the Afghan border, suspecting presence of militants there.

“The security forces came under fire from the compound and the exchange of fire is continuing although it is sporadic. The siege and operation continue,” officials and witnesses said.

The militants holed up in the house were putting up resistance, they said, adding that clerics were making efforts for a truce.—Correspondent
