Madressahs have no link with terrorism, says Sarwar

LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has said religion is not about creating chaos using the name of Islam and added that those using Islam for their “dirty political agenda” will fail.

In a meeting with a delegation of Wafaqul Madarass led by secretary-general Qari Hanif Jalandhri and Badshahi Masjid kahteeb Abdul Khabeer Azad here on Wednesday, the governor claimed the madresshas had no link with terrorism as they were propagating love, peace, and brotherhood.

He said those, conspiring to de-seat Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani were neither doing any service to democracy nor the country, but merely pushing their personal agendas to “create chaos”.

Mr Sarwar said the federal and Punjab governments were working hard for introducing reforms in religious institutes (madressahs), besides providing better facilities there.

He said the government was not only trying to bring reforms in madressahs but in the entire education system.

“One nation, one education system is our goal,” he said.

He said the representatives of madressahs were members of the curriculum committee just because the government wanted to resolve the issues and difficulties of their students.
