Tariq and South Africa share first day’s honours

KARACHI, July 26: Pakistan’s Tariq Mahmood fired an excellent one-under-par 71 to take the lead in the individual event while South African enjoyed a great day on the opening day of CISM World Military golf championship at Karachi Golf Club on Tuesday. Tariq carded 36 at the front nine and 35 at the back nine with three birdies and four bogeys to lead a pack of 38 rivals in the fray.

Two strokes behind him was Loubser of South Africa and with one-over- par round of 73 and further stroke behind was Ireland’s Jenson. In the men’s team event, the South Africa is leading with a score of 310 and four point adrift were hosts Pakistan at 314 followed by Ireland third with 320 points.

Saba was leading the women’s individual event with a score of 90. Close on her heels were two Canadians Dunbar and Dearman- MacIsaac at 91 followed by Thanysairi from Thailand at 93.

Golfers from armed forces of South Africa, Canada, India, Thailand, Ireland, Namibia, Uganda, The Netherlands and hosts Pakistan are taking part in the 54-hole event which will conclude on Thursday.—Agencies
