LAKKI MARWAT, July 26: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Sami) has entered into an alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) for the local body elections, it was learnt on Tuesday.

“Both the JUI-S and PML-N, contesting elections under the banner of the Shariat group and the Watan Nawaz group, respectively, have reached an agreement on seat adjustment for nazims, naib nazims and councillors of several union councils in the district,” sources said.

They said that soon after the announcement of the schedule for the local body elections the influential Saifullah group had approached the JUL-S leadership to reach an understanding.

However, the JUI-S office-bearers were annoyed over the Saifullahs’ alliance with the JUI-Fazl so they preferred to join hands with the PML-N, the sources said. The two parties have decided to field joint candidates for the slots of union nazims, naib nazims and councillors.—Correspondent
