MIRPURKHAS, July 26: The Chief Minister of Sindh, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, has said that local body elections will be held in a peaceful manner under the supervision of police and Rangers and added that no person will be allowed to undermine peaceful atmosphere during the local elections.

He was talking to people from Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar and Umerkot districts at the circuit house on Tuesday.

Sindh Assembly speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussein Shah, adviser Faqeer Jadam Mangrio, MPA Dost Muhammad Memon, District President of PML, Mirpurkhas Khair Muhammad Bhurgari, Sin Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi, Arbab Abdullah, Kanwar Hameer Singh, Noor Moammad Shah Jilani, Irfan Gul Magsi, Pir Taj Shah, Kishan Chand Parvani and Khalid Siraj Soomro were also present.

The chief minister said that it was responsibility of government to hold local body elections in a peaceful manner, hence he was visiting each district of the province.

He said that action would be taken against former nazims if found involved in corruption.

Arbab Ghulam Rahim claimed that PML will win the elections with the cooperation of the coalition partners.

SENSTIVIE POLLING STATIONS: The Deputy Inspector General Police, Mirpurkhas, Altaf Hussain Bhatti, has said that 100 polling stations have been declared sensitive in the four districts of Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Sanghar and arrangements had been made to ensure law and order during the local body elections, and if needed, Rangers and military personnel would be deployed at the sensitive polling stations.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that it was only propaganda that police were pressurizing the opposition and said that magistrates were working and monitoring the situation and it was impossible for police to intervene at polling stations as there will also be representatives of all candidates.

ARREST CONDEMNED: District Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan president Allama Mohammad Sharif Saeedi has condemned the arrest of Allama Mufti Hidayatullah Pisroori, president of Punjab JUP.

In a press statement issued here on Sunday, he regretted that Allama Pisroori was arrested without any reason by law-enforcement agency personnel while he was offering prayer.

He maintained that the JUP was against terrorism.
