CDA declares two housing schemes illegal

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has declared two more housing schemes in Zone IV illegal and warned the public from investing in them.

The housing schemes deemed illegal are the Commander Housing Scheme in Mouza Tumair and Baber Enclave in Mouza Mohrra Noor in Banigala.

There are already more than 100 illegal housing schemes in the capital. In most cases, the operators of such schemes wind up their business after selling land to the public.

In several schemes, operators have even sold plots originally reserved for schools, mosques, graveyards, playgrounds and green areas.

The CDA’s statement issued on Thursday said that no housing scheme can be floated or launched in Zone IV by private sponsors without the authority’s approval, according to the Islamabad Capital Territory (Zoning) Regulations 1992, amended in 2010, and the modalities and procedures framed for the planning and development of private housing schemes.

The CDA said the sponsors of Commander Housing Scheme and Baber Enclave Housing Scheme in Zone IV have not obtained approval from the CDA and these schemes are therefore illegal and unauthorised.

Through public notices published in various newspapers, the authority has told the public to refrain from booking plots in these schemes.

It has directed the sponsors of both schemes not to book plots or advertise or publicise the schemes.

The sponsors have also been directed to explain why they should not be proceeded against under the CDA ordinance in writing and in person within 15 days.
