Minister seeks report on Karachi’s water crisis within 48 hours

KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has directed senior officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to submit a report within 48 hours regarding what he called “artificial water crisis” in the metropolis.

He asked the chief engineers and executive engineers of the KWSB to furnish him a report about water situation, supply position and the issues being faced and the causes for “artificial water crisis during the last two months”.

He also directed the local government institutions to continue their ongoing drive under the supervision of the district administration for removal of garbage from their respective areas.

The minister, who chaired two separate meetings on Wednesday relating to water situation as well as the cleanliness drive, also asked the KWSB officials that worsening situation of sewerage and leakages in water lines be tackled on a top-priority basis and the complaints received through complaint cells be solved and their reports be submitted to him on a daily basis.

Before issuing these directives, the minister was briefed on the pressing issues by the authorities concerned.

He expressed surprise that despite improvement in water supply from the Hub Dam, why had the water crisis suddenly taken an ugly turn within two months.
