KARACHI: Old man kills wife, self

KARACHI, July 21: A retired employee of the Pakistan Air Force shot himself after killing his wife in North Nazimabad on Thursday. Police said Abdul Ghaffar, 82, had apparently become fed up with the prolonged aliment of his wife, who was in coma for the last three years.

The old couple’s daughter-in-law, who was present in the apartment in Al-Ahram Plaza Block-G North Nazimabad at the time of the incident, told police that her father-in-law went to the room of his wife Aysha, 80, and shot her in the chest.

After shooting his sick wife, Abdul Ghaffar went to his bed and shot himself in the head, added family sources.

Following the incident, the police shifted the bodies to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The couple’s son Jehanzeb, 46, is an employee in the PIA while their three daughters are married.

ENCOUNTER: A suspected bandit was shot dead and his two accomplices were arrested by the police after an encounter in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Thursday.

A police team was carrying out snap checking near the PIA Society Block 2, Gulistan-i-Jauhar when they signalled a car to stop.

A duty officer of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station said that instead of stopping, the suspects in the car opened fire at the police and tried to flee.

Police returned the fire killing one of the suspects while wounding another. Their third suspect identified as Raja Tufail remained unhurt.

The suspect killed in the encounter was identified as Waqar while his associate, Ali Hasan, was wounded.

Police recovered three TT pistols from their possession. The car they were using was snatched from the limits of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station on Wednesday.

KILLED: The body of a teenager was recovered from a graveyard on Thursday morning.

Police said the body of Sohail Habib, 17, was found from the Qayyumabad graveyard. Police recovered a pistol near the body.

The victim had suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen. His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination.

Police suspected that either the boy had shot himself or he was murdered by unidentified persons.

ILLEGAL FISHING: A team of the Sindh Fisheries Department on Thursday arrested an accused for illegal fishing and confiscated a huge quantity of shrimps which was being packed and sold outside Karachi, adds APP.

The raiding team, led by Syed Haroon Ali Rizvi, also seized a pick up (KG-9467), loaded with shrimps which was netted despite a ban on fishing for two months under the Sindh Fisheries Ordinance, 1980.

The team has auctioned the illegal catch and will produce the accused Mohammad Arif s/o Mohammad Usman Jokhio before the Judicial Magistrate, South Karachi, on Friday.
