KARACHI, July 21: A total of Rs120 million has been distributed among the pensioners of taluka/town municipal administration staff across the province, who were not paid their dues since the last one decade, said Waseem Akhtar, Adviser to Chief Minister for Local Government. Speaking at a seminar, ‘Is Karachi Prepared to Combat Monsoon Related Problems’, organized by the Pakistan Press Foundation at its library on Thursday, he said that around 1,000 pensioners of had TMAs benefited from the step.
Cheques were distributed among more than 300 retired employees in Hyderabad the other day, Mr Akhtar said.
He said that retired employees hailing from various districts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur regions had been deprived of their legal rights for the last 10 years and the concerned departments were reluctant to pay them pension on regular basis.
“I personally took interest and got released the funds from the finance department and distributed the cheques among them,” he told.—PPI
