ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has sent a proposal to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for establishment of a food street in Blue Area.

The CDA on the directives of Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider has recently approved a plan to establish a food street at Melody Market on the pattern of famous Lahore Food Street.

The ICCI and some big businessmen of Islamabad are reportedly trying to shift the venue of the food street from the approved site to Blue Area as all prominent restaurants and fast food centres, owned by them, are located here.

The proposal said Blue Area was one of the largest and posh shopping centres of Islamabad located in the heart of the city. “It is close to all diplomatic missions and offices of various international organizations”, it added. Moreover, it said, at least 500 vehicles could be parked in the car parking of Blue Area. It said all basic utilities like water, electricity, gas, sewage, transport and manpower were already available. Therefore, it would be appropriate to establish the food street in Blue Area, it said.

On the other hand, a large section of the society has hailed the decision of establishing the food street at Melody Market as not only the elite class but a common man can also enjoy good quality food there.
