More complaints made against MUET official in cybercrime case

HYDERABAD: Ten more applications were submitted to the Mehran University Engineering and Technology (MUET) vice chancellor with complaints of harassment though social media on the part of Kashif Dars, who has been arrested for uploading indecent material, believed to be edited, containing photos and videos of the VC and his family members as well as other functionaries of the university.

Dars is the deputy director of the university’s student financial aid section. The first complaint against him was

lodged with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) by Ishfaq Ahmed Leghari on May 22 and the investigators have reportedly gathered incriminating evidence against the suspect.

It was gathered on Monday that 10 such complaints were lodged with the VC by MUET’s Khairpur campus pro-VC Dr Moazzam Baloch, dean faculty of engineering Khanji Harijan, associate professor Sikandar Memon, deputy registrar Fawad Ahmed Lashari, finance director Munir Ahmed Shaikh and others.

According to Ishfaq Leghari, FIA wants teachers and students having similar complaints against the suspect to come forward and help investigate the matter.

The FIA had seized some devices from Dars and gathered incriminating evidence against him, he said.

Preliminary investigation suggested that Dars was using ‘Nighat Huma’ as the ID to post objectionable material on the social media.
