ISLAMABAD, July 18: Pakistan on Monday lodged a strong protest with India over unprovoked firing by the Indian troops, intrusion of the Line of Control in Kotli Sector and abduction of a civilian in Village Kundi in Azad Kashmir. The Director General Military Operations (DGMO) spoke to his Indian counterpart and protested over this violation of ceasefire and intrusion of LoC, said a press release issued by the foreign office.
The foreign office said DGMO, Major Gen Muhammad Yousaf demanded initiation of an immediate inquiry into the incident and safe return of the abducted civilian.
The foreign office said the unprovoked incident was against the spirit of the ongoing peace process.
“The leadership of Pakistan and India are committed to the resolution of all outstanding issues including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through peaceful means and the Indian Government must ensure against recurrence of such incidents,” said the foreign office.
Details of the incident show that some 10-15 Indian security officials crossed the LoC at around 1:30 pm and took away a 64 years old man Faqir Hussain.
They also roughed up another 70 years old man in the isolated house located some 200-250 yards from the LoC on Pakistani side.
Sources said after DGMO Maj Gen Muhammad Yousaf talked to his Indian counterpart on the hotline, the later agreed to investigate the matter and inform Pakistan by Tuesday about the progress.
The DGMO also demanded return of the 64 year old Faqir Husain but till the filing of the report the man was still in Indian custody.
