HYDERABAD, Jan 13: The central body of Sindh Taraqqi Passand Students Federation (STPSF) at a meeting held here on Sunday has decided to observe black day in Sindh on Jan 21 to protest the registration of a “fabricated” FIR against the chief of Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party, Dr. Qadir Magsi, Haider Shahani and Gulzar Soomro.
The meeting directed the STPSF workers to hoist black flags on their houses and wear black armbands on the black day.
Meanwhile, a breakaway leader of the STPP, Hussain Bukhsh Thebo, has sent a letter to US congressman Tom Lantos to use his influence with Pakistan to take action against those responsible for the murder attempt on the life of another breakaway leader, Dr Rahim Solangi.
Thebo reminded the congressman that Solangi was honoured with human rights award by the United Nations in Dec last. He said that one month after the award, a murder attempt was made on the life of Solangi who was fighting a battle of life and death in a hospital.
CPP: The Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) has expressed apprehension that the announcements made by President Gen Pervez Musharraf in his address to the nation for banning the activities of the extremist religious groups would not be implemented.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the secretary general of the party, Moula Bukhsh Khaskheli, and Imdad Kazi, said if the activities of the extremist religious elements were not stopped, it would lead to anarchy and civil war in Pakistan which would be completely in the international community.
They stressed the need for converting the country into a secular, democratic state and resolving the problems of the small provinces and working class.
They said that the only way to extricate Pakistan from crisis was that the army in future should stop interference in politics.
They called upon the secular, progressive and democratic forces to increase pressure for the implementation of the measures announced by Gen Musharraf lest the fundamentalists again began their activities when the international pressure was decreased.
The CPP leaders also urged the Indian government to stop war hysteria and hold a dialogue with Pakistan for resolving the bilateral issues including that of Kashmir in a peaceful manner.
They demanded that the armed forces of both countries should be withdrawn from the borders.
RALLY: Activists of the Mohajir Ittehad Tehrik took out a rally on Sunday.
The rally started from the Haider Chowk and stopped in front of the Hyderabad Press Club where its leaders, Rashid Rizvi, Hanif Shaikh and Imtiaz Munna gave speeches.
They paid glowing tributes to President Pervez Musharraf on his candid address to the nation and welcomed the ban on those parties which were involved in terrorist activities and sectarian killings.
