SIALKOT, July 16: Scores of people, including women and children, staged a demonstration in front of the DPO office and brought traffic to a standstill on Kutchery Road for half an hour on Saturday against the alleged highhandedness of Uggoki police. Protesters alleged that Sadar DSP Malik Ashraf after taking a bribe released the accused, who had killed truck driver Muhammad Khalid some two months ago.

Carrying placards and banners, the protesters also raised slogans against the police. Some elderly women participants fell unconscious while beating their chests in hot and humid weather.

Talking to reporters, deceased driver’s wife Naseem Sughra alleged that the DSP was providing shelter to the accused.

Later, protesters dispersed when DPO Usama Mumtaz Raja assured them strict action against the accused policemen and re-arresting of the accused.

Muhammad Khalid was shot dead near Nole Morr in Uggoki village on April 28, 2005.

EXHIBITION: A two-day first International Standard Education Exhibition began here on Saturday under the auspices of a local organization Education.com Sialkot.

Chief executive Tahir Mehmood Butt advocate told reporters that over 20 stalls had been established by consultants from the UK, the US, Ireland, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia and Pakistan.

He said the main aim of the exhibition was to provide information and consultancy to Sialkot-based students intending to get higher education abroad.

He said the response remained quite encouraging for a large number of students, including girls, visited stalls of different countries and updated themselves with necessary information.

CASE: Daska police registered a case against 28 accused, including three nominated accused Arshad Dar, Rafiq Dar and Asif Dar, for killing ex-MPA Muhammad Ashfaq Wyne’s cousin at Fawara Chowk over an old enmity on Friday evening.

The accused also thrashed deceased Adeel Butt’s father Iqbal Butt and former councillor Aamir Butt. The injured were admitted to Daska THQ Hospital in critical condition.

According to the FIR, the accused escaped from the scene after killing the youth in two cars (LRW-4580, LZG-338). The deceased was laid to rest on Saturday in his native graveyard.

BODIES FOUND: Two bodies, one that of a man and the other of a woman, were found on Saturday from Nullah Dek near bordering Dallowali village, Sialkot tehsil. The bodies have so far not been identified.

Police have taken the bodies into its custody and are investigating.

SNATCHED: Three gunmen on Saturday deprived Muhammad Mansha of his taxi cab (STF-55) near Shaikhuwaan village, Daska.

According to the FIR, the outlaws hired the cab from the taxi stand at Pasrur.

Daska Sadar police are going into the matter.

Meanwhile, two armed bandits looted ornaments, cash and valuables worth Rs100,000 and also took away a motorcycle (SKT-7531) from the house of Muhammad Akbar in Model Town, Sambrial.
