Govt schools to run second shift

PESHAWAR: Adviser to the chief minister on education, Ziaullah Bangash, on Friday inaugurated the second shift classes in government schools across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The inaugural function was held at Government Huzaifa Aftab Shaheed Higher Secondary School, Hayatabad, here. Initially, 200 students from grades 6 to 9 were given admission in the second shift classes.

On the occasion, Mr Bangash said the second shift classes at government schools had been started from Hayatabad and soon this network would be extended to the entire province, including the merged districts. The step, he said would help bring those children to schools, who remained out-of-school due to poverty and employment and shortage of seats during morning hours.

Mr Bangash said recruitment of teachers for second shift would be made from the same schools and in some cases new teachers would be employed.

The adviser paid tribute to the staff and teachers of the school for achieving best results in annual examinations.

Describing importance of second shifts at schools, Mr Bangash said the move would bring at least 2.6 million out-of-school children to schools.

Owing to second shifts schools are being upgraded that would help cope with shortage of educational institutions to a great extent as construction of a new school takes almost four years, he said.
