Stray clashes mark BD shutdown

DHAKA, July 16: Sporadic violence in Dhaka and in the northern district of Sirajganj marked a countrywide dawn-to-dusk strike in Bangladesh on Saturday. The Jute, Yarn and Textile Workers and Employees’ Action Council had called the strike.

Some 60 workers were injured in attacks by the police and the ruling BNP-backed workers in Sirajganj, Dhaka and some other places during the shutdown, which was observed partially across the country.
